Additional Information:

School is dedicated to bringing quality theatre and theatre education to Shelby County, Alabama.

The school prides itself as the Award-Winning South City Theatre…

SCT, the best “little” theatre in Alabama, is located in the Alabaster area (approximately 8 miles from Promenade Shopping Mall) and is North Shelby County’s only community theatre. They produce six mainstage plays each year, attracting approximately 3,000 audience members annually. Their children’s program offers two workshops during the school year and a two-week summer camp, which allow children ages 9-16 the opportunity to study the craft of acting by producing a production.  SCT has won “Best in Show” at recent state festivals and represented Alabama at the Southeastern Theatre Conference with “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Agnes of God,” and “Sylvia!” The photos above showcase our productions. Check out their “BLOG” for information about upcoming productions, auditions, and other events!

Founded in 1998 by Alan & Francie Gardner, South City Theatre has grown to produce a year round adult theatrical season, conduct seasonal acting workshop productions for kids (Acting Up!) and an annual Summer Musical Theatre Camp.

The theatre offers seating for 99 and produces mainly dramas and comedies, classical to contemporary.  For the date of the next audition or information about classes, visit their web-page at

Acting UP is South City Theatre’s youth theatre division. It offers two workshops a year for aspiring actors ages 9-18, and a Summer Musical Theatre Camp for ages 8-18. Their Fall Musical workshop runs from September to November, and the Spring workshop (non-musical) runs March to May. Both workshops rehearse twice a week and culminate with a full production. The goal of these workshops is to guide young actors through the entire production experience, including the thrill of a curtain call. Space is limited, and all registered participants will have an active role in the production. Tuition for 2013-2014 is $250 per student.
